Patch

I got a Facebook invite for a Patch reunion next spring.  Obviously, I won't be able to go since we'll still be in Okinawa and there's no way I'm forking over a few grand just to see a bunch of kids from high school reminisce on the old days and get 12 kinds of crazy.  For those of you who don't know, Patch was a pretty small school compared to most high schools in the states. We're talking grades 7-12 (yes, middle school was included) about 500 kids... TOTAL. I think we had like 82 graduating seniors in my class from '03, and at that point, that was the biggest class to ever graduate from the school.

I kind of can't help but chuckle at those who are planning to attend the reunion.  For the most part, Facebook allows most of us to keep in touch, or just stalk those people we're "friends" with on a regular basis. You know, check out their latest photos, see who they're married to/or if they're still single, how many kids they've popped out, whether they went to college or not, working a "grown-up" job/or not, and basically just a quick summary of what is going on in their lives.  Even people I really don't ever talk to, or really plan to talk to, but am "friends" with... just because I guess, I kinda know a lot about what's been going on in their lives. Good ole' Facebook!

I guess Facebook kind of takes away the "excitement" and "anticipation" of a reunion since everyone already knows what is going on with the majority of people they went to school, with maybe the exception of a few who don't use it regularly (and they probably wouldn't go to the reunion then anyway).  Fun idea, but I can already see it... a bunch of kiddos reminiscing on the good ole' days, getting rowdy and partying like they were 18 again.
