June Pedi

I've been dying to get a new pedi since mine was severely chipped. With school being out, it's been nice to have a few days off to myself! I know the 4th of July is in a few weeks, so I thought I'd be festive with red, white, and blue :) I really like it!

New Job!

Well, I'm excited to announce I was offered a 2nd grade teaching position for the next school year!!! I'm SUPER excited! I received a call on Memorial Day asking if I was available for an interview the following morning. I gladly accepted the interview and spent the afternoon prepping and getting my resume and portfolio ready.

When I talked to the asst. principal on the phone, he informed me they narrowed it down to me and one other person. Those sounded like pretty good odds. I got there early and it turned out the other person up for the job was someone I already knew. She works as a para at AEIS and I see her all the time. We both laughed about it.

The interview itself went well. As well as an interview can go I guess? I was extremley nervous and stumbled over one of the questions, but I reminded myself to relax and be myself. They seemed excited to take on new teachers which really put me at ease.

My secretary at AEIS was itching to know who received the job. The other lady and I always would run into each other and ask, "Did you hear anything?" and we always just shook our heads no. As I was signing out of school one day, the secretary asked me if I had heard anything and I had told her no. She said she was going to look into it. She's got the inside scoop on things!

The next morning I was signing in and the first thing she says to me is, 'I'm mad at you" with such a straight face. I looked at her puzzled... my mind racing about what I might have done wrong. Then she smiles and says, "You got the job!". I laughed and couldn't believe it. She said she called HR and asked around! Then she told me she was mad because she wanted me to get hired on at the school I've been subbing with, but they didn't list their vacancy until I'd already been "claimed".

The other school I had previously talked to the principal about the possibility of a 1st grade vacancy also heard I got hired and told his wife he was a little disappointed I'd already been selected. It's been so nice to hear so many people rooting for me to get hired on this year!

I'm running a million and one ideas through my head about what I need to do in order to set up my classroom. I've been looking online and have a TON of things to order! I'm soooooo excited!

Promotion!

Joe pinned on Captain on the 31st! Unfortunatley since there are so many other guys being promoted in the squadron (15 others) they don't do a special pinning on ceremony like some other people do. He's just expected to show up with the new rank. Oh well! I'm still proud! We had some friends over on Memorial Day to celebrate! They also are having a big Captain's Party next week, but I'm not sure if Joe will be here to celebrate. Congratulations to all the '06 grads who just got promoted!

Gotta love those late night phone calls!?

So you'd think by now, I'd be use to Joe getting alerted at 8pm (often times it'll be in the middle of the night... but we haven't decided which is worse; getting no sleep, or only getting about 3-4 hours of sleep) saying to pack his suitcase, he's going on an AE mission (basically, saving someone's life by flying flying them to a better medical facility). Sometimes they'll get enough warning ahead of time where they can rest up beforehand (especially for night flights). But tonight was not one of those nights. We were eagerily awaiting for LOST to come on, and the phone rings (and as always, I can't disclose where he is going until he's already returned). We rush to pack his suitcase, get some snacks/drinks ready, and hope that he didn't forget anything (he has 1 hour until he has to be there). This gives him enough time to stop by the Shopette to pick up some Monster Energy drinks (pretty much the only thing that will keep him awake while he flies for 10+ hours in the black skies of the night) and some Subway.

Although Joe was not able to attend our squadron's Dining Out event a few weeks ago (he was stranded in Alaska with a broken jet), the guest speaker was a 4-star general who spoke about how important the KC-135's mission is. It makes me proud knowing Joe is helping to save someones life when he goes on AE missions!

I'm sorta used to the whole ordeal, but it's funny because it's always when we don't think he'll actually get called, he does! The times when he plans around "I might get called in", he never does. Looks like we need to stop jinxing it and start thinking ahead more! :)

Hopefully all goes well and he'll be back later in the week. Until then, I'll be busy subbing... seems like a lot of teachers have saved their "sick" leave for the last month of school and subs are being called in like crazy! I'm not complaining because I enjoy it, but I'm looking forward to the summer for a less jam-packed schedule!

May Pedi

I took one of the new spouses to get her first Cocok's pedi. Unfortunately we were a little late, so we had to skip out on the massages (the best part!) so she didn't get the true Cocok's experience. There will be a next time though! Anyway, I wanted to get my pedi before the Dining Out (annual dinner/dance with the Squadron where we get to wear ball gowns/mess-dress), but I just found out Joe's jet is STILL broken and he won't be making it back in time.

*Sigh* that's the military for you. 1 week trip turns into 2+ weeks... oh well, I think another spouse who's husband is with Joe is planning on going, so maybe we can go together.

Rain, Rain, GO AWAY!

Soooo, I remember last year when we got here, it was the "rainy season" from March-April. Pretty much two months straight of lots and lots of rain (a few sunny days inbetween). Well, I was excited when it seemed like the rain and went away and spring/summer was here! I think summer has been teasing us! It's come around for a few weekends, but then all the rain comes back! UGH! My Japanese friend told me that the rainy season has just begun! Boo, and here I was thinking it was beach time. Well, it was at least this time last year!

PS-The dogs do NOT like the rain. They will refuse to go outside and potty unless of course I go on a w-a-l-k with them. Not a fan of this weather!

Happy Birthday, Kella!

Kella is now 3 years old! Okay, I admit, we don't really know her exact birthday since she's a rescue pup, but we know she was born in May, so what better than to have a Cinco de Mayo birthday?! (We did the same for Brody and estimated his to be July 4th!) Hehe :) As soon as I put the hat on her, she tried to shake, paw, and tear it off. Then I tricked her into sitting for a quick second while holding a treat in front of her, so I could snap a few quick pictures! Aw, poor girl looks miserable! She hatttted the hat! 5 seconds later...

They both celebrated by playing with their new toys and getting a nice big bone for an after dinner treat!

This cracks me up... look at Brody's Elvis snarl! He was giving Kella the evil eye because he wanted BOTH toys to himself.
