Chick Magnet

Since Ty's been born, he's been to two play dates, and he's always the only boy there! He's quite the ladies man already! This week, we went on a walk with other mommies (what a great workout pushing a stroller uphill), and got together at our house afterwards for a play date with the babies. Tyler loves spending time with his many girlfriends! He is looking forward to having other boy buddies join him (one was just born, and another is on the way in August).

Easter Bunny

Today we took Ty to see the Easter Bunny at the PX! I've been looking forward for over a month to take him! I found a cute Polo overall outfit that I was hoping would still fit him (seriously, the kid is growing like a weed!), and fortunately, it did! It wasn't anything fancy, and they printed out a somewhat fuzzy picture for us (but hey, it was free). I was a little afraid the Bunny was going to drop Ty, since he had these oversized furry mittens on... but he did okay. Obviously the Easter Bunny must not have a lot of experience holding babies, since he's holding him somewhat awkwardly and you can hardly see his face. However, I'm just glad we got the picture and Tyler wasn't crying! :) And I know he's WAY too young to understand or remember or appreciate anything Easter related, but I can't wait to "give" him his Easter Basket next week! :)

Ty's First Trip to the Beach!

Last weekend we had the most beautiful weather! We took advantage of it and decided to head over to the beach! This year we hope to go more than we did last year (I think we only went 2 or 3 times - what a shame)! It was in the upper 70's, few clouds and blue skies. We got Ty geared up in his swim trunk and rash guard shirt (hah, yes they makethem for babies). We discovered it was pretty snug, so he'll most likely be outgrowing it soon - if he hasn't already! We enjoyed walking around, taking pictures and letting Ty touch sand for the first time. The water was still pretty chilly, so we decided to wait until it gets warmer to put his toes in! We stopped by a little place where Joe got a mango smoothie and I got soft serve ice-cream... and just a bottle for Ty. Before long, Ty let us know it was time to go! Until next time beach!

Grammie's Visit

Last month, Grammie Muolo came to meet and visit with Tyler! He is the first grandchild on both sides of the family! Although Poppy Muolo wanted to come meet Ty, he was unable to get away from work. We enjoyed spending quality time at home, venturing out to do some sight-seeing and eating out at yummy restaurants. The time went by quickly, but we're excited for our big state-side vacation this summer! Tyler can't wait to see everyone! :)

Back to blogging! Ty's 2 month update!

I really want to make time to blog more! Tyler is constantly changing and growing and I want to record these milestones! It broke my heart to see him get his shots (3!). As soon as they poked him, his face turned bright red, he held his breath and then let out the biggest scream I've ever heard come out of him! Poor little man has to go back next week too, because of course they were out of one of the vaccines.

2 month Updates:
- Weighs 12 lbs 6 oz (up from 6 lbs 12 oz at birth)
-Is 22" long (was 19.1" at birth)
-15.5" head circumference (unfortunately I don't know what it was at birth, I'm sure it's in his paperwork somewhere...)
-Highly enjoys playing on his mat and squeals at the musical toys and when Mommy wiggles his legs around
-Still eats every 2-3 hours on the dot during the day; anywhere from 4-6 hour spurts during the night
-Has had 3 explosive diapers that went through the diaper and clothes
-Naps in his bouncy chair during the day; hates his swing
-Sometimes takes his paci
-Enjoys walks in his stroller/car rides; hates getting in and out of the car seat
-Loves squealing and cooing at his airplane mobile in his crib
-Still sleeps swaddled... although sometimes manages to sneak an arm out (or two!)
-Has become a sensitive sleeper during the day (needs it to be semi-dark/semi-quiet for him to take a long nap)
-Loves to fall asleep on Mommy and Daddy's chest after burping
-Enjoys baths! Loves the warm water but hates getting out and starts to cry (we've also discovered to immediately dry him off and put on a diaper... lesson well learned).
-Has a strong neck
-Has worse gas than an adult man (poor guy is colicky)
-On that note, he doesn't like it when Mommy eats things like Asian food (uhhh, we live in Japan though?!)

Here are some photos from since he was born! I can't believe how fast these last two months have gone by and how much he has grown and changed!

Tyler Joseph Bisson

Tyler Joseph Bisson decided to grace us with his presence early! He arrived on February 12, 2011 at 12:32 pm. He weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and was 19 inches long. He is an overall healthy baby boy (working on lowering his biliruben levels... I'll get to that soon).

Friday afternoon I had a 36 week check-up. The appointment went well and nothing out of the ordinary happened. I went home and several hours later I noticed I was leaking fluids. Obviously concerned, I called L&D and they told me to monitor it for 2 hours before coming to the hospital. They say a lot of first time mom's mistake their water breaking for just leaking of urine. I was absolutely convinced it wasn't urine (you'd think one would know, right?!). I called Joe and told him to come home and we probably were going to head to the hospital. I called several friends for their advice and they said I should go in!

During the 2-hour wait, Joe and I frantically tried to finish packing our hospital bags and installing the car-seat... just in case. We had planned on finalizing our bags and last minute details that weekend! At 7pm, we decided to head to the hospital because I was still leaking fluids.

They took me in right away and hooked me up to monitors and took vitals and said I was 1 cm dilated but was not having any contractions. They soon came and did a swab test to see if the fluids were amniotic fluids or not... and ding, ding, ding... they were. They told me since I was 36 weeks 2 days... they weren't overly concerned (37 weeks is considered full-term). They admitted me and hooked me up to an IV and started me on some meds to get my contractions going. By 12:30pm I was 3cm dilated and they switched me over to Pitocin and the contractions were getting a lot more intense. They didn't want to check how far I was dilated since my water was already broken because it could cause an infection.

By 6am the contractions were pretty strong, but not unbearable. They were strong enough though where I wasn't able to sleep at all. I battled for quite some time if I should wait to get the epidural now or keep waiting (I heard the longer you can wait the better, because it can sometimes slow down delivery). Since I was getting annoyed watching Joe sleep all night, I decided to get the epidural and hope it would work so I could rest.

The guy said he had been waiting hours for me to ask for one... he was surprised I waited to long. Anyway, the epidural worked wonders and I was finally relaxed enough to sleep. It was such a strange sensation not to have full feeling from my waist down (strong pins and needles, but I could still somewhat feel/move them). I slept for a few hours on and off all morning. 12pm the nurse came to check on me and was shocked and said, "Ok, are you ready to have this baby? It's time!". Within minutes they had everything set up and enough the staff in the room ready for his big debut. I began pushing and really had no idea what I was doing, if I was doing it right, an how much progress I was making each time (I refused to look in the mirror).

At one point (about 15 minutes into pushing) the nurse told me to take a break and slow down so she could get the doctor here in time. She said she was amazed how well I was pushing and how fast it was all going. The doctor was barely able to get her gloves on before I pushed him out and Tyler joined the world!

We stayed for 48-hours and everything was going smoothly. The doctors even forgot Tyler was premature and wanted to let us go home after 24-hours, but when they remembered he was preemie (before 37 weeks) we stayed the extra day. Fortunately, there were not a ton of people delivering/recovering when I was there! My friend who works in post partum said they've been having 120+ babies born each month. With a limited number of rooms, they begin sharing rooms when they run out. That means hubbies can't spend the night and you have to hear another person's crying baby right next to you. Good thing we had the room and bathroom to ourselves!

When we were getting ready to leave, the pediatrician told us his beliruben levels were a little high (causes jaundice - very common with preemies) and gave us this bilibed for him to sleep on. It's a small bed that has UV lights coming up from inside of it. It has a mesh like jacket that we put him in and little sleeves for his arms to stick out of and velcros shut up to his neck. It was definitely a very long night because Tyler didn't like it at all! He can only wear a diaper which was terrible because he hates not having clothes on. He also hates not being swaddled! At one point, he was crying for what felt like eternity. Joe finally broke down and kept taking him out, calming him down, then putting him back... then for it to start all over again. Needless to say, we learned our lesson about taking him out so much when the next day they said his levels didn't go low enough so we had another night to do. Another long night of crying, but this time his levels were low enough to go home with no bilibed! We went back two days for follow-up labs, and then we were told his levels were beginning to rise again. Sigh... back to the bilibed for two more days.

We were lucky enough to chat with another couple who had to use the bed too. They gave us the most amazing tip! Hold the bilibed in your lap and rock him to sleep. DUH! Why didn't we think of that? For some reason, we just figured the bed had to stay in the crib. It's pretty big and doesn't exactly fit across my lap on the chair, but when I angle it just right, it works nicely. So far, it's working wonders and he seems somewhat content now.

We go back Sunday for more follow-up labs. Let's hope we get to say good-bye to the bilibed... forever!

We are so blessed and thankful that Tyler is here healthy (minus the jaundice). We were a little worried that he decided to come so early, but thankfully he is a great size and weight for his age. We can't stop smiling and staring at him in awe! Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes and words of encouragement!

Final Stretch!

Okay, it's been a long time since I posted on here. What can I say, life has been busy lately!!! I'm in the final stretch of pregnancy, just about 4 week (1 month) left until we get to meet our little man!

My friend, Susan, hosted a wonderful baby shower for me last weekend. It was great to celebrate with so many friends here on island, and Baby B was even spoiled with lots of gifts by a ton of friends and family in the states too! I'll post pictures soon.

I've enjoyed pregnancy, but I must admit I'm ready for it to be over and to hold my little guy! Between the achy back, the constant need to go to the bathroom (also causing lack of sleep since I get up every hour), the swollen feet/hands, stretch marks and limited clothing options... I'm ready for a change! :) I'm looking forward to working my way back to pre-baby clothes, sleeping on my stomach/back, and not having so many aches and pains all the time. I will however miss the precious kicks and thumps from inside my belly!

Now it's time to get ready for the big day. We still have many things to do which include getting the paperwork for the hospital filled out, finish packing my hospital bag, washing the rest of the clothes/blankets that keep on coming in as gifts, and get things ready for work when I'm gone. I'm so fortunate to be able to take a generous 12 weeks of unpaid leave (I'm not complaining) and will return for the last month of school. It's great to have such a strong support system and them allowing me to take so much time to be with my baby!

We'll try to keep everyone posted! Of course, FB is the best place for that! :)
