Two days in a row Kella has slipped through the front door and run away. She makes a MAD dash and thinks a clever "chase me" game has started. Joe and I swear she's bi-polar. During the day when she's in the house, she is the laziest dog everrrr. Then when she gets outside for a walk, she is so hyper!
Yesterday she slipped through the front door and Joe and I tried to calmly bring her back. As soon as she realized what we wanted, she thought it was a game. It was a "high speed chase" for about 20 minutes in the blazing hot sun! Brody (who is actually trustworthy off his leash) tried to chase her down. He did a better job then Joe and I could... she is insanely fast! She thankfully stayed somewhat close to the house. Finally, Joe was able to reel her in with a treat, and as she got close enough he grabbed her by the neck. Boy was she in trouble!
Today, as a parent was picking up their child from tutoring, she slipped out again! Brody went again to chase her down (while Joe went out barefoot as well). As I tried to gently shuffle my parent/student out the door so I could help, Joe was already carrying Kella back. Unfortunatley during the chase, Brody cut open his paw and has a loose flap on his paw pad. Poor boy has been licking and slightly limping all night. Not to mention as they were running, Kella dashed right into the street while a car was coming! Thankfully, the car stopped... we're so lucky and thankful our CRAZY dogs are ok! Needless to say Kella is on lock-down and being carefully watched!
Also last week (of course while Joe was gone on a trip) I came home to a big mess. There was a huge pile of throw-up (dark brown) and a shredded box that used to be chocolate covered macadamia nuts. The box was 1/2 full... meaning there were about 20 large pieces still in the box (aka-too much chocolate for a dog!). Now, they've gotten into chocolate before, but not this much. They'd never gotten sick off it, so I was a little worried when I saw the big mess. Then as I let him outside, he continued to get sick. I called the vet asking if they thought he needed to be seen and they said "yes". Conveniently (or rather, not so much) they were booked for the day so I had to rush to a vet off base. With it being considered after hours (it was 2pm on a weekday!) and the language barrier, it made for an interesting afternoon. I brought Kella since I didn't know if she got into the chocolate as well (but back to my previous statement of her being LAZY... she must have never got up from bed and was guilt free this time). They gave them both medicine that made them throw-up to try and get all the chocolate out of their systems. As I said, Kella was fine so I felt a tad bad bringing her in. Then they gave Brody some crazy medicine that made his neck bloat up to the size of a tennis ball and they said it was to help soothe his stomach. Weird! Anyway, two days later he got into another small box of chocolate (seriously, I don't leave it out for them to get... he jumps and takes it off the back of the counters). Needless to say, all chocolate is being kept inside the pantry now. Although, I'm sure he'll out smart us and figure out a way to open those doors too...
So they've both had their share of being in the "dog house" lately! I think they were acting out because Joe was gone for a week and a half and I was busy with my new tutoring schedule. *Sigh*... It's never a dull moment in the Bisson house!
